City Preparing for Tropical Activity in the Gulf
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), in coordination with the National Weather Service, is watching an area of thunderstorms in the southern Bay of Campeche, which has the potential to develop into a Tropical Depression or a weak Tropical Storm before moving inland near the southern Coastal Bend Friday evening.
Regardless of development, the most significant threats will be increased rain chances, dangerous rip currents, increased seas/swells, and possible coastal flooding.
This rainfall could lead to areas of flash and urban flooding.
City services will continue as normal at this time. The Oso Water Reclamation Plant will remain open unless there is lightning in the area.
During inclement weather, we want our community to be safe. If you must get out in these conditions, remember:
· Drive slower than usual so you have time to react to other traffic on the roadway.
· Turn on your headlights so you are visible to other vehicles and pedestrians.
· Be aware of possible flooding in low-lying areas.
· If you must be on the road, be aware and find an alternative route.
· While driving, any time you come to a flooded road, Turn Around. Don’t Drown.
The City of Corpus Christi has prepared safety tips for residents in advance of inclement weather, including how to sign up for Reverse Alert Notifications.
