The Coastal Bend is the richest birding region in North America, with many great birding locations in Corpus Christi. Use or check out any of these great birding resources available through the Corpus Christi Public libraries.
Birds of the World
Birds of the World is a fully collaborative ornithological platform that brings together deep, scholarly content from several celebrated works of ornithology with millions of bird observations from eBird and multimedia from the Macaulay Library into a single platform where biologists and birders can explore comprehensive life history information on birds. Now available in English and Spanish!
Birds of the World includes:
- 11,145 species accounts with details on appearance, taxonomy, habitat, diet, breeding, behavior, and more.
- BirdLife Range maps, eBird Status & Trends maps, and animated migration maps
- Scientific illustrations of every species and many subspecies
- Expertly curated media galleries showing the bird throughout its life cycle (photos, videos, and sound recordings from the Macaulay Library)
- Literature cited
- And more!

Birds of the World can be found on our Research and Resources page.
To log in, select Library Card Holders and enter your library card number.
Once you’re logged in, select Webinars from the upper right menu to find webinars and videos about birding and using the resource.
Clif Moss Nature Education Center
Visit the Owen R. Hopkins Public Library to use the Clif Moss Nature Education Center featuring a dedicated computer to access the Birds of the World resource, birding pamphlets, and maps of local birding areas. The Nature Education Center opened in 2008 and is named after a former City Council Member.
The Hopkins library also features a pollinator garden. Keep an eye out for the Pollinator Partners Garden Club on the library’s program calendar.

Family Birdwatching Kits
Birdwatching kits are available at all six libraries and were provided through a partnership with the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve. Each kit is housed in a backpack that contains 1 adult binoculars, 2 children's binoculars, and 1 Kaufman Field Guide to Birds of North America. Free birding journals are also available when you borrow a birdwatching kit, while supplies last.
How to borrow a kit:
Visit any Corpus Christi Public Library and check out a kit at the circulation desk with your library card. Families may borrow one kit at a time for a period of up to one week. In-person renewals are subject to kit availability.
