October is Family History Month

By Library Staff

It’s time to discover and share your family’s history. Connect with the library or other organizations that provide ways to explore the past. Share what you find and add your own memories to preserve the stories of your family for the future.

The Local History Department in the Corpus Christi Public Libraries is here to help you on your journey of family discovery. Located upstairs in La Retama Central Library, the Local History Department holds the library’s Texas Reference, Corpus Christi Reference, and Genealogy Reference collections. Use the Murphy Givens room to conduct local history or genealogical research on your own, or with guidance from staff. Special collections and archive material can be found on the digital repository and is only available for in-person viewing upon request. The best way to guarantee a staff member is available to provide requested archive material for in-person viewing is to make an appointment.

As a Family Search Affiliate, the Corpus Christi Public Libraries provide access to documents beyond what is accessible through a free account. Visit the Local History Department in La Retama Central Library to use computers reserved for genealogical research, and staff can help get you started.

Visit the Local History page for more information about using the Murphy Givens room, accessing the archives collection, and for links to the library’s digital collections & archives.
