Scope

City construction crews are preparing for waterline improvements at the South Padre Island Drive and Everhart Road intersection, part of voter-approved roadwork included in Bond 2018 and 2020.

During construction, motorists will have access to all businesses in the area. Traffic signs will be placed to alert residents of changes to traffic patterns.

This work is part of a $29.3 million road reconstruction project of Everhart Road from South Padre Island Drive to Alameda Street. The upcoming work includes $3.4 million in construction to replace aging infrastructure and link upgraded waterlines that improve water system efficiency.

Work will be done in three phases, tentatively scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 7, with the estimated completion date of first quarter 2026.

Motorists in the area are advised to plan and allow additional travel time to navigate lane closures.

Public Input

The City is working with businesses in the area in anticipation of related road closures and hosted an open house to provide information to neighboring businesses.

The City is also offering informational signage to impacted businesses to keep customers informed about the upcoming work.
