$2.1 Million East Surfside Boulevard Reconstruction Project Begins Nov. 9

Infrastructure initiative will improve drainage and convert key section to two-way traffic

A $2.1 million reconstruction project on East Surfside Boulevard will begin Monday, Nov. 9, closing the corridor between Breakwater Avenue and Elm Street through May 2027. A section of Elm Street connecting to it will also be closed during construction.

Property access will remain open for residents and businesses throughout the project.

The roadway will be closed through May.

This $2.1 million project includes a range of upgrades and enhancements, designed to improve not only the functionality but also the accessibility and safety of the roadway.

Key elements of the project include:

·         Hot mix asphalt concrete pavement

·         Utility and drainage improvements

·         Concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters

·         ADA-compliant curb ramps

·         Enhanced traffic mobility (changing from one-way to two-way in the section between Breakwater Avenue and Coastal Avenue)

·         Upgraded street illumination

The project is funded through FY 2026 allocations from the Street Bond 2022, along with contributions from Storm Water, Water, Wastewater, and Gas Funds.

Safety remains a top priority, so motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays, remain aware of the work zone, and follow posted signs.
