City Announces Major Upgrades and Strategic Partnerships at the Corpus Christi International Airport

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the Council approved three major enhancement initiatives at Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA) that will advance terminal modernization, airfield safety, and passenger recruitment. The infrastructure investments total more than $6.5 million and benefit from 95% federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

The initiatives include:

Baggage Handling System Rehabilitation ($4,565,790)

· A construction contract awarded to SpawGlass Contractors, Inc. will fund a comprehensive overhaul of the check-in baggage handling infrastructure. The updated system will optimize baggage processing speeds, minimize delay risks, and enhance overall ticketing operational efficiency.

Taxiway E Rehabilitation ($1,767,975)

· Awarded to Anderson Columbia Co. Inc., this construction contract targets essential airfield infrastructure. Upgrades to Taxiway E will improve pavement durability, support aircraft taxiing operations, and reinforce airport safety standards.

Air Service Marketing Partnership ($150,000)

· CCIA has finalized a local marketing agreement with Morehead Dotts Ryback (MDR). MDR will spearhead strategic marketing campaigns to elevate awareness of air service options at CCIA and encourage regional travelers to fly local.

These projects represent a balanced investment in CCIA’s infrastructure and market presence. With 95% of the capital costs covered by FAA grants, CCIA is expanding operational capacity, increasing passenger efficiency, and supporting local business growth.
