City Council Approves First Reading of FY 2027 Water and Wastewater Rates

Corpus Christi, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the Council approved first reading ordinances adopting updated water and wastewater rates across all customer classes. The proposed rates will take effect January 1, 2027.

The rate adjustments apply to all customer classes, including residential, commercial, wholesale, and large-volume users.

For an average residential customer, the proposed combined monthly increase for water and wastewater is $4.35. This rate adjustment is lower than the previous fiscal year’s, despite continued significant investment in new water supply projects and infrastructure improvements. 

Corpus Christi Water’s approach to rate setting and long-term financial planning has been viewed favorably by credit rating agencies, including Moody’s, S&P, and Fitch Ratings. All three agencies have been formally notified of the City Council’s prudent fiscal decisions. These agencies recognize the City’s willingness to adjust rates as needed to maintain the financial stability of the water and wastewater enterprise funds and to support the City’s strong credit profile. 

The ordinances will return to the City Council for a second and final reading on July 28, 2026. If approved, the new rates will take effect on January 1, 2027.
