City Manager Appoints New Director of Animal Care Services

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The City of Corpus Christi announces the appointment of Dr. Antonio Caldwell, DBA, CAWA, as the new Director of Animal Care Services, effective Monday, May 18.

Dr. Caldwell has over 20 years of executive and operational leadership experience in animal welfare, procurement, budgeting, and organizational management in both the public and private sectors.

Previously, he served as the Assistant Director of Animal Care Services for the City of San Antonio, where he managed an annual budget of $34 million and led a diverse team of 245 staff members. His responsibilities included overseeing enforcement, field services, veterinary care, animal placement programs, marketing, and communications. During his tenure in San Antonio, Dr. Caldwell was part of the city’s community-wide initiatives that successfully increased the Live Release Rate from 88% to 93%.

Before his position in San Antonio, Dr. Caldwell served as the Deputy Director of Health, Wellness, and Animal Services for the City of Brownsville, where he significantly improved the Live Release Rate from 26% to 78% within 12 months.

Dr. Caldwell holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship and Business Management from California Intercontinental University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas. Most recently, he earned the Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) designation from the Association of Animal Welfare Advancement, a credential held by only about 25 individuals in Texas.
