City of Corpus Christi Statement on Propositions A and B Election Results

Proposition A

Crime Control and Prevention District Renewal

Corpus Christi voters have approved Proposition A, renewing the Crime Control and Prevention District and its dedicated one-eighth-cent sales tax for an additional 10 years. The district has the critical role of funding 78 sworn police officer positions. Voters have made clear that they continue to prioritize public safety funding. The City looks forward to continuing the district and its dedicated funding for these positions and related operations.

Proposition B

Industrial Water Drought Surcharge Charter Amendment

Corpus Christi voters approved Proposition B, amending the City Charter to discontinue the existing Drought Surcharge Exemption Fee program and require drought surcharges for certain large industrial water users during specified drought conditions. Following this, the City will initiate the required notification process within 30 days and evaluate the legal, contractual, financial, and operational actions necessary for implementation. The Drought Surcharge Exemption Fee program will continue for the next 5 years and during that time, participants will continue to pay the surcharge fee and maintain their exemption. The current Drought Surcharge Exemption Fee program generates approximately $6 million annually for water supply; therefore, the City will assess the fiscal impacts associated with terminating the program and transitioning to the new surcharge framework.
