Council Approves Critical Infrastructure and Flood Mitigation Upgrades at Two Wastewater Plants
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — At Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting, the Corpus Christi City Council approved the purchase of two emergency backup generators and major flood mitigation improvements for the City’s Oso and Greenwood Wastewater Treatment facilities.
The upgrades will ensure both treatment plants remain fully operational during extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, tropical storms, and severe freezes.
The need for these upgrades was highlighted during the historic February 2021 Winter Storm Uri, when statewide power outages left the Oso Wastewater Treatment Plant’s limited backup power system unable to support operations fully. The installation of these new, heavy-duty generators will guarantee safe, normal operations during future grid failures.
In addition to backup power, the Greenwood facility will receive comprehensive flood mitigation improvements to protect critical structures from high-water events.
Ardurra Group will conduct the work at Greenwood, with a $1.6 million budget. Construction is planned for April 2028 with completion in November 2029.
Bath Engineering will conduct the work at the Oso facility for $729,489. Construction is planned for February 2028 with completion in September 2029.
