City of Corpus Christi Monitoring Inflows to Choke Canyon and Lake Corpus Christi Following Significant Watershed Rainfall

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — City officials and Corpus Christi Water (CCW) are closely monitoring upstream river flows and preparing for an increase in lake levels following widespread, heavy rainfall across the Texas Hill Country and the regional Nueces River watershed over the past month.

Rainfall runoff throughout the basin is expected to move through the Frio, Atascosa, and Nueces River systems, ultimately contributing vital inflows to both Choke Canyon Reservoir and Lake Corpus Christi.

Inflows to Choke Canyon Reservoir are currently ongoing, while inflows to Lake Corpus Christi are expected within the next week.

"Our team is continuously tracking upstream gauge levels and coordination efforts across the watershed," said Nicholas Winkelmann, Chief Operating Officer of Corpus Christi Water. "We are fully prepared to manage incoming volumes to ensure dam safety, optimize municipal supply storage, and fulfill all regulatory requirements."

City staff will continue to monitor rising water levels and provide updated system storage information as the full impact of upstream runoff reaches the reservoirs over the next weeks.
