City Approves a Construction Contract for Greenwood Sports Complex Upgrades

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the Council approved a $7.1 million construction contract to Barcom Construction, Inc. of Corpus Christi for significant upgrades to the Greenwood Sports Complex Project in District 3. This project aims to rejuvenate three key sports fields: Westside Pony Baseball Field, Universal League Youth Baseball Field, and Sparkling City Youth Softball Field.

Westside Pony Baseball Field
•    Field and lighting improvements

•    New irrigation and hardscape
•    Covered bleachers, canopies, and dugout enhancements
•    Effluent water line extension
•    Infield Synthetic turf and grass outfield

Universal League Youth Baseball Field
•    Field, lighting, and building improvements
•    New irrigation and hardscape
•    Covered bleachers, canopies, and dugout enhancements
•    Signage, picnic benches, and tables

Sparkling City Youth Softball Field
•    Field, lighting, and building improvements
•    New irrigation and hardscape
•    Covered bleachers, canopies, and dugout enhancements
•    Signage

The Greenwood Sports Complex, located at 4035 Greenwood Drive, has long been a cornerstone of youth sports in Corpus Christi, fostering community and competition through leagues such as Universal Little League Baseball, Sparkling City Youth Softball, and Westside Pony League. 

“With these exciting upgrades, the fields are expected to offer an improved and enjoyable experience for the youth and their families,” said Robert Dodd, Director of Parks and Recreation. "The complex will continue to be an active hub for sports and community activities."

Funding for the project is from the voter-approved Bonds 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. Construction is scheduled to begin in March and is expected to be completed by August 2026, weather permitting.
