City Council Approves Construction Contracts for New Fire Stations 8 & 10
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX— At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council authorized a significant investment in the city's public safety infrastructure.
A $9.6 million construction contract was awarded to Catamount Constructors, Inc., based in San Antonio, Texas, for the construction of the new Fire Station No. 8 Replacement project on Kostoryz Road.
Additionally, Catamount Constructors, Inc. received $9.3 million contract for the construction of the new Fire Station No. 10 Replacement project on Horne Road.
Both projects are in Council District 3.
- Fire Station No. 8 will be at 4909 Kostoryz Road near McArdle Road. The new facility will feature three drive-through apparatus bays, 10 bedrooms, lockers, a captain's office, a kitchen, a break room, an exercise room, a laundry room, showers, and restrooms.
- Fire Station No. 10 will be next to the existing Fire Station on Horne Road. It will include similar features as Fire Station 8, including: three double-stacked apparatus bays, support spaces, living quarters for personnel, a watch office, a weight room, and expansive common areas.
The existing Fire Stations No. 8 and No. 10 require replacement due to energy inefficiency, degraded foundations, and outdated infrastructure. Both have exceeded their design life cycle and lack the structural capabilities to accommodate modern emergency response vehicles, which are larger and heavier in size.
“This investment in Fire Stations 8 and 10 is an investment in our residents,” said Mayor Guajardo. “Every resident deserves the peace of mind that comes with knowing our firefighters have the best tools and facilities to respond when seconds matter.”
“These new, modern facilities will better support our firefighters in delivering the highest level of service and emergency response to the residents they proudly protect," Fire Chief Brandon Wade said.
