City Council Receives Briefing on Water Reuse Partnership Opportunity

Gulf Coast Authority and Ardurra Present Reclaimed Water Project Proposal

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council received a briefing on a potential water reuse partnership that could add 11 to 16 million gallons of water per day to the City’s current portfolio. Gulf Coast Authority (GCA) and engineering firm, Ardurra, presented a proposal to develop reclaimed water from the City’s Oso and Greenwood wastewater treatment plants. Reclaimed water is treated wastewater that has been cleansed to meet safety standards for reuse.

GCA introduced its wastewater and water services model. Created by the Texas Legislature as a non-taxing governmental unit, GCA provides cost-effective wastewater treatment solutions for municipalities and municipal utility districts.

Ardurra outlined the reclaimed water opportunity and project delivery method, which would use City-owned reclaimed water for accelerated customer delivery. The proposed project targets water delivery within 18 to 24 months from development agreement approval, offering the potential to enhance the Coastal Bend’s water security through sustainable reuse practices.

“By leveraging our existing wastewater infrastructure and working with experienced partners like GCA and Ardurra, we’re exploring ways to enhance our water security and promote sustainable practices,” said Nick Winkelmann, Interim Chief Operating Officer for Corpus Christi Water.

The briefing represents a step in exploring innovative water management solutions for the region.
