City of Corpus Christi Awards Construction Contract for Harbor Bridge Parks Mitigation Improvement Project
At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and Council awarded a $16,497,423 construction contract to JE Construction Services of Corpus Christi for the Harbor Bridge Parks Mitigation Improvement Project, which includes significant upgrades to several key parks and trails in the city.
The contract will focus on improvements across several park locations, including Ben Garza Park, Dr. H.J. Williams Park, North Beach Trail, Hike and Bike Trail, T.C. Ayers Park, and Washington Coles Park and is a significant step towards mitigating the impact of the construction of the Harbor Bridge.
The Harbor Bridge Parks Mitigation Improvement Project encompasses a variety of enhancements at each location.
· Washington Elementary School Site: Plans include an amphitheater with seating, a pavilion, vendor space, lighting improvements, and approximately 200 parking spaces
· T.C. Ayers Park: Upgrades will feature a softball field, loop trail, and sidewalks
· Dr. H.J. Williams Memorial Park (Hillcrest Park): Enhancements include resurfacing basketball courts, playground installations, picnic areas, and a community garden
· Ben Garza Park: Improvements feature a park entry plaza, playground, and picnic areas
· Hike and Bike Trail Connections: Improvements include a five-foot sidewalk for enhanced connection to key park locations
· North Beach Trailhead: Plans include a new trailhead for enhanced access
Additionally, the T.C. Ayers Aquatic Center, requiring specialized construction expertise, will be advertised for bids as a separate project in August.
“This investment represents our commitment to improving the quality of life for all Corpus Christi residents, “ Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. “These enhancements will transform our parks and trails into vibrant spaces where families can gather, children can play, and our community can thrive for generations to come.”
“We are excited to move forward with these improvements, which will not only enhance our parks and trails, but also provide lasting benefits to our community,” Robert Dodd, Director of Parks and Recreation, said.
The project's funding comes from Parks Bond 2014, Metropolitan Planning Organizations reimbursement, and a prior certificate of obligations.
