City Partners with Port of Corpus Christi Authority for Storm Drainage Improvements

Area Includes Sam Rankin Street from Port Avenue to IH-37

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council approved an interlocal agreement allocating up to $2.5 million for storm drainage improvements, using funds from the Street Bond 2024 initiative.

The agreement partners the City with the Port of Corpus Christi for a joint project to upgrade Sam Rankin Street from Port Avenue to IH-37. Under the agreement's conditions, the Port is responsible for the pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter, and sidewalk costs, while the city is responsible for the storm infrastructure improvements. This project's funding is part of the $175 million Bond 2024 Program, which voters approved on November 5, 2024.

“This interlocal partnership reflects our shared commitment to investing in the critical infrastructure that protects and serves our community,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “By working together, we are delivering on the promises of Bond 2024 and building a stronger, more resilient Corpus Christi for generations to come.”

“This is a great chance for us to collaborate with other local agencies to improve our shared infrastructure for our residents,” said Jeff Edmonds, director of Engineering Services.

The project will begin in September.
