City Statement: Housing Authority Executive Staff Compensation

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In response to recent public reporting on the Corpus Christi Housing Authority’s executive compensation practices, it should be noted that the Housing Authority is an independent agency, and the City Council does not set or approve the annual salary, bonus, and other compensation for the Housing Authority CEO.

The City does not provide funding for the Corpus Christi Housing Authority's administrative operations; however, it provides grant funds for a rental assistance program for eligible households.

Mayor Paulette Guajardo is recommending the Authority’s Board of Commissioners to institute immediate reforms around financial oversight and public accountability.

To help ensure stronger fiscal oversight and better alignment with the Authority’s core mission, Mayor Guajardo has recently appointed three new members to the Housing Authority Board:

    •    Former Mayor Joe McComb
    •    Former City Council Member Greg Smith
    •    Judith Gonzalez-Rodriguez, a respected counselor with West Oso ISD and a grants specialist
