City Statement: Regarding State Funding Comment
The City of Corpus Christi is aware of recent media coverage regarding comments made by the City Manager concerning state funding for our new water infrastructure. We wish to clarify that these remarks, shared during an extensive City Council deliberation on $408 million in new water supply projects, were intended solely to emphasize that while additional state and local funding are being pursued, there is a critical urgency for the city to authorize the local funding measures to pay for new water supply projects currently before the Council.
“The City of Corpus Christi remains deeply grateful for the $46 million grant investment provided in the budget and the $757 million in SWIFT loans from the State of Texas,” City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “This funding is vital to our mission of securing a sustainable water supply for more than 500,000 residents across the Coastal Bend. Our priority is to maintain and strengthen our productive relationships with both state and federal partners as we work together to ensure the long-term water security of our region.”
