Corpus Christi Public Libraries Offer Free Teen Cooking Classes
Classes Held in Partnership with Coastal Bend Food Bank and Other Collaborators
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi Public Libraries' free cooking classes are proving to be a recipe for success, attracting hundreds of local teens eager to master new skills in the kitchen.
In Spring 2023, the Corpus Christi Public Libraries introduced cooking classes for teenagers in partnership with several collaborators, drawing approximately 435 young participants, and the numbers continue to rise.
These programs are part of a broader aim to promote nutrition and maintain a balanced diet among children, which includes workshops led by the Coastal Bend Food Bank, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, and Cabana Pantry.
“These classes rank among our most popular for teens and tweens,” said Library Director Laura Garcia. “They encourage peer interaction and cater to those with limited cooking experience. Parents appreciate seeing their children acquire new skills while enjoying the meals they create.”
Each session produces up to three healthy dishes. Depending on the recipe, participants measure, chop, peel, and mix various ingredients in their meal preparation and take home new recipes. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and observe the class.
Registration is required, and space is limited.
