Corpus Christi Public Libraries Offer Nearly 580 Free Programs with Community Organizations
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Libraries are for more than just books — they're for building communities, developing new skills, and connecting with others with similar interests.
Corpus Christi Public Libraries (CCPL) offers over 3,000 programs annually, including 580 in-house programs with 80 community organizations. These programs range from popular Firefighter Storytimes to crucial, life-saving CPR classes.
The programs, hosted from June 2024 to May 2025 across the six CCPL locations, are either offered by or supported by various organizations, City departments, schools, companies, or individuals.
"The library has evolved into a dynamic community hub, offering far more than just books," said Library Director Laura Garcia. "Thanks to our incredible partnerships, we can deliver programs that directly address the varied needs of our residents, ranging from initiatives aimed at enhancing children’s reading abilities to equipping adults with essential financial skills.”
Some notable programs from the past year include:
- Firefighter Storytime with the Corpus Christi Fire Department
- No-Cost CPR/First Aid/AED Classes with the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District
- Introduction to Personal & Business Finance Workshops with LiftFund
- Tex the Tortoise with the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center
- Read to Lead with the United Way of the Coastal Bend’s Success by 6 and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s College of Education & Human Development
In addition to these initiatives, CCPL extended its outreach through nearly 70 off-site programs at local community events, organizations, and schools. They have also offered library tours to schools throughout the region, provided virtual learning opportunities, and served as drop-off locations for coat and pet supply donation drives.
CCPL will continue collaborating with partners to enhance program selection. The ongoing services and initiatives will depend on community interest and the availability of resources.
