Council To Receive Update on Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus, Overview of Progressive Design-Build Process

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council will receive a presentation regarding the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus, the City’s seawater desalination initiative.

Brett Van Hazel, Program Management Office Director for the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus (IHWTC), will provide the council with a current project status. Leofwin Clark, Education Director for the independent, nonprofit Water Collaborative Delivery Association, will also present an overview of the progressive design-build (PDB) process and the delivery method employed for developing the IHWTC.

Mr. Clark will explain the process of developing the guaranteed maximum price, an iterative process that will continue throughout the remainder of the year. He will also provide a detailed comparison of the PDB process to other delivery methods, an explanation of PDB contracts, and a description of the process's expectations and deliverables.

The Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus represents a vital component of the City’s long-term water management strategy. Seawater desalination provides a drought-proof water supply by converting seawater into fresh drinking water through advanced treatment processes.
