Final Traffic Switch Set for Everhart Road and SPID Intersection

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – As construction crews near the completion of water line improvements at the intersection of South Padre Island Drive (SPID) and Everhart Road, they will implement a switch in lane closures in the area.

Beginning Thursday, February 5, at 7:00 p.m., construction crews will remove current traffic restrictions and set up new traffic control plans in the area. Workers will be on-site until approximately 6:00 a.m. Friday, February 6.

Motorists will now be able to travel through the intersection in all directions. However, some additional median work is ongoing.

The new traffic restrictions include the closure of the inside lanes of Everhart Road between McArdle Road and SPID. Through traffic will be allowed in both directions on the remaining lanes of Everhart Road.

The inside lanes of Everhart Road will also be closed for a small section on the west side of the intersection. Additionally, the far-left lane on the SPID Eastbound Frontage Road at Everhart Road will be closed.

These closures will remain in effect through Friday, February 13. This is the last planned traffic restriction for this project.

Access to all businesses in the area will remain open during construction, and traffic signs will be posted to notify residents of any changes to traffic patterns.

The work is part of a larger $29.3 million road reconstruction project on Everhart Road, extending from SPID to Alameda Street. Of this, $3.4 million is dedicated to replacing outdated water infrastructure at the SPID intersection to improve overall water system efficiency.

A detailed map is attached, illustrating this phase of roadwork and changes in traffic flow.

Safety remains a top priority. Motorists are urged to follow posted detour signs to navigate the construction zone safely. Detours will be clearly marked to ensure minimal disruption and maintain traffic flow.
