Haze Expected Across Corpus Christi as Gulf Moisture and Smoke Drift from Eastern Mexico
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi advises residents that hazy skies will continue across South Texas over the next several days due to a combination of high humidity and smoke drifting northward from eastern Mexico. Southerly winds are carrying this mixture across the Gulf of Mexico and into the region, creating reduced visibility and a milky appearance in the sky.
This haze is not associated with any local industrial incident. It is the result of a persistent weather pattern that is drawing moisture and transporting smoke into the coastal counties.
What to Expect
- Hazy conditions are likely to persist through mid-week and into the weekend
- Southerly flow will continue to pull Gulf moisture and elevated particulates into South Texas
- A cold front expected this weekend is forecast to shift winds and help push the haze offshore, improving visibility and air clarity
Health Considerations
While air quality levels are not expected to reach levels of significant concern for the general public, certain groups—including adults 65 and older, children under 18, individuals with heart or lung conditions, and individuals with diabetes are recommended to:
- Limit prolonged outdoor exertion
- Monitor personal symptoms
- Follow guidance from healthcare providers if they have respiratory conditions
City Monitoring
The City of Corpus Christi, in coordination with state and regional partners, will continue to monitor air quality and visibility conditions. Any significant changes will be communicated through official channels.
