McArdle Road Now Open

McArdle Road from Kostoryz Road to Carroll Lane is now fully open.

The street project began in late 2023 and was voter-approved as part of Bond 2018. The $8 million project was a total reconstruction with new concrete pavement, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, signage, and related underground infrastructure improvements.

The popular roadway is critical for travel in the area, providing access to neighborhoods and as an alternative to South Padre Island Drive.

“We are excited to have this busy and vital roadway improved and open to motorists,” said Jeff Edmonds, Director of Engineering Services. “We are committed to improving streets throughout the city and continually evaluate streets to plan for maintenance and road reconstructions as needed.”

The project had several phases with varying road closures. Reytec Construction was the contractor.
