Street Closures Planned for Thomas J. Henry Turkey Giveaway

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX— The Annual Thomas J. Henry Turkey Giveaway will be held Sunday, November 16, through Thursday, November 20, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. while supplies last. This year, turkey vouchers will be distributed from the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy located at 1102 Ocean Drive, 78404. The annual distribution is expected to draw large crowds. Residents are asked to exercise patience and cooperation during this holiday event.  

A total of 6,000 vouchers will be distributed during the week-long event on a first-come, first-served basis (Sunday: 2,000 vouchers, Monday through Thursday: 1,000 vouchers each day). The vouchers will be redeemable at H-E-B located at 3033 South Port Avenue, 78415.

Street closures will be implemented to facilitate the distribution of the vouchers. Residents are asked to use southbound Shoreline Drive to access the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy. Volunteers will distribute vouchers in a drive-thru operation. Foot traffic to obtain a voucher will not be permitted.

Residents are asked to remain in vehicles, follow instructions and the directions of peace officers who are assisting in promoting the safety of the event. A maximum of two vouchers per vehicle. Recipients must be age 18 or older.

Street closures along northbound Shoreline Boulevard will be implemented as early as 6:30 a.m. Water Street should be used as an alternate route.

Residents will not be permitted to park on Shoreline Boulevard or block travel lanes in advance of the event. During closure periods, residents should plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time. Traffic impacts are as follows during event days:
•    Southbound Shoreline Boulevard: Full closure between Coopers Alley and Craig Street starting at 6:30 a.m. 
•    Northbound Shoreline Boulevard:  Left turn restrictions at Buford Street, Furman Avenue, Park Avenue, Kinney Street, and Coopers Alley. 
•    Northbound Ocean Drive: Left turn restrictions at Morgan Avenue and Craig Street.
•    Morgan Avenue: Left turn restriction onto Ocean Drive. 
•    Access onto Ocean Drive from Craig Street will be prohibited. 
•    Access onto Shoreline Drive between Coopers Alley and Buford Street will be prohibited. 
•   Local access on side streets between Water Street and Shoreline Boulevard from Coopers Alley to Buford Street will be maintained. 
•    Access to Water’s Edge Park will be maintained via northbound Shoreline Drive. 
•   All access to churches, businesses, residences and neighborhoods in the area will be maintained via Water Street.
