Corpus Christi Fire Department Observes Fire Prevention Month with Special Focus on Lithium-Ion Battery Safety
CORPUS CHRISTI - The Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) is recognizing October as Fire Prevention Month, joining fire departments nationwide to raise awareness about steps families can take to prevent home fires before they start. This year’s National Fire Protection Association campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” will serve as the focus for Fire Prevention Week, observed October 5 to 11, and throughout the month-long outreach effort.
Fire Prevention Month serves as a reminder that safety starts with awareness and action. Across the community, firefighters witness firsthand how simple precautions, such as using certified chargers, inspecting cords, and properly recycling old batteries, can prevent serious and sometimes deadly fires. Through public education, school programs, and neighborhood events, the department aims to empower every resident to incorporate fire safety into their daily lives.
“Lithium-ion batteries power so much of our daily life, and when they’re used and charged correctly, they’re both safe and reliable,” said Fire Chief Brandon Wade. “But when damaged, improperly charged, or paired with substandard equipment, they can overheat and start fires fast. Fire Prevention Month is an opportunity to pause and make sure our homes are as safe as possible, because prevention is always our best defense.”
Throughout the month, CCFD will host school visits and provide different educational events to share important safety information about overall fire prevention practices.
