Updated Everhart Road and SPID Closures

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—The City of Corpus Christi reminds residents and motorists about a new traffic pattern that is now in effect at the intersection of Everhart Road and South Padre Island Drive (SPID).

Key Traffic Changes

  • Northbound Everhart Road Closure: The section of Everhart Road between Corona Drive and SPID is closed to northbound traffic. Drivers are advised to use Corona Drive as an alternate route.
  • Left Turn Restrictions: Left turns from the eastbound SPID frontage road onto northbound Everhart Road are not permitted. Motorists should plan their routes accordingly.
  • U-turn Restrictions: U-turns are prohibited from the westbound SPID frontage road at Everhart Road. Drivers should seek alternative routes to navigate this area.

Traffic Congestion and Alternative Routes

  • Southbound Traffic on Everhart Road: Motorists traveling southbound on Everhart Road should anticipate congestion at the SPID intersection. It is recommended that motorists allow extra travel time or follow other routes.
  • Eastbound SPID Frontage Road: To avoid delays and restricted areas, those using the eastbound SPID frontage road should consider turning onto Flynn Parkway or Embassy Drive.

The Corpus Christi Police Department has observed a rise in traffic violations. In response, they are increasing patrols in the affected areas to ensure compliance with posted signs, the new traffic patterns, and to enhance road safety.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the affected intersection if possible and to remain vigilant for updated traffic signals and signs. The City of Corpus Christi appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as these changes are implemented to improve infrastructure and safety in the area.

This project is part of a $29.3 million road reconstruction initiative for Everhart Road, stretching from South Padre Island Drive to Alameda Street. The current phase involves $3.4 million set aside for replacing outdated infrastructure and linking upgraded water lines to improve the efficiency of the water system.
