Public Comment at City Council Meetings

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Procedures for public comment at City Council meetings have been revised for improved public participation.

On January 13, the City Council passed a motion moving the General Public Comment Session from 5:30 p.m.to 12:00 p.m. The time allowed for each speaker was also modified.

Here are the updated procedures for Public Comment at Council meetings, effective January 27:

  • Speakers may comment on agenda items or city-related topics at the 12:00 p.m. General Public Comment Session.
  • If they choose to speak on an agenda item during the General Public Comment session, they will not be allowed to speak again when the Council is considering the item.
  • All in-person speakers are allocated 3 minutes to speak.
  • For call-in or Webex speakers, Corpus Christi residents are allocated up to 3 minutes to speak, and non-residents receive up to 1 minute.
  • Registration to speak is only required for the noon General Public Comment Session.
  • Registration is not required to speak on a specific agenda item when it is being considered by the Council.
  • Speakers will sign up at https://www.corpuschristitx.gov/signin or in person at the kiosk located in City Hall. Registration will begin on Mondays at 8:00 a.m. and end on Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. when there is a City Council meeting
  • Speakers may ask questions during their time with the understanding that the Mayor, Council Members, and staff are unable to answer any questions during the public comment period
