Public Health District Makes Major Community Impact and Expands Access for Residents in FY 2025
Programs and Key Partnerships Aim to Improve Quality of Life
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District (CCNCPHD) significantly expanded its community outreach efforts in fiscal year 2025, successfully boosting program participation and enhancing vital health access throughout the region.
By emphasizing preventative education and strategic collaboration, CCNCPHD offered free programs that improved residents' health and quality of life.
CCNCPHD also launched and expanded several key initiatives aimed at making health services more accessible and engaging for the community.
· Mobile Clinic Serves Rural Communities: The Nueces County and Public Health Mobile Clinic provides free essential services such as health screenings, flu shots, and childhood immunizations to underserved areas. In fiscal year 2025, 22 events were held in Corpus Christi and nearby locations, including Agua Dulce, Banquete, Bishop, Driscoll, and Robstown, connecting rural residents with vital care and resources.
· Neighborhood Fitness Participation Doubles: The popular Neighborhood Fitness initiative saw significant growth, expanding from five to nine events to cover every city district. The program, which promotes community health and wellness, offered free fitness classes to 768 participants in fiscal year 2025, doubling the attendance from 335 the previous fiscal year.
· Inaugural Public Health Summit: To strengthen regional defenses against chronic disease, CCNCPHD hosted its first Public Health Summit. The event was attended by over 145 public health professionals and community partners from Texas State Public Health Region 11, setting a new standard for innovative disease prevention strategies.
· New Wellness Wednesday Series: Launched in August, this popular program increased community engagement through free wellness activities led by certified instructors. In its first few weeks alone, the program drew 63 participants to its initial fitness classes.
In addition, strong partnerships enhanced CCNCPHD’s achievements by expanding vital health services, improving health outcomes, and increasing access to free resources for residents.
· Coastal Bend Food Bank: The Food Bank partners on the Wellness Wednesdays program, offering vital community nutrition classes and reaching more than 126 participants since March 2025.
· Driscoll Children’s Hospital-Global Institute for Hispanic Health (DCH-GIHH): DCH-GIHH works on-site to provide education and resources to mothers while collecting essential data on maternal, child, and family health outcomes.
· Morgan’s Multi Assistance Center (MAC): Through this program, individuals with disabilities and/or special needs are linked to comprehensive state services using its “MAC Care Model.”
· Nueces County Medical Society: Members actively engage in community events, assisting the CCNCPHD in providing accessible health education to residents.
· The Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse: On-site support is provided through its Project Link program for pregnant and parenting adults and adolescents at risk of substance use disorder.
· United Way Success By 6: Essential on-site developmental screenings are offered to children ages five and under, connecting families to coordinated early childhood services.
“The growing participation in our initiatives, such as Mobile Clinic events and fitness programs, demonstrates a genuine community need for accessible resources,” said Dr. Anita Kurian, Public Health Director. "Our collaboration with partner agencies enables us to deliver services and create a healthier, more vibrant Nueces County for everyone."
