Rescheduled Traffic Switch for Everhart Road at South Padre Island Drive Intersection

Phase 2 Water Line Improvements Rescheduled for December 7

Due to forecasted inclement weather, the traffic switch for water line improvements at the intersection of South Padre Island Drive (SPID) and Everhart Road has been rescheduled. It will now begin on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. Please note that this work remains highly dependent on favorable weather conditions.

Motorists in the area are advised to plan and allow extra travel time due to anticipated lane closures. Access to all businesses in the area will remain open during the construction period, and traffic signs will be in place to notify residents of any changes to traffic patterns.

This construction marks the second of three phases, with an estimated completion date targeted for March 2026.

The work is part of a larger $29.3 million road reconstruction project on Everhart Road, extending from South Padre Island Drive to Alameda Street. Of this, $3.4 million is dedicated to replacing outdated water infrastructure at the SPID intersection to improve the overall efficiency of the water system.

Weather-Dependent Traffic Adjustments Beginning Sunday, December 7:

· No right turns from SPID Eastbound Frontage Road to Southbound Everhart Road.

· No left turns from SPID Westbound Frontage Road to Southbound Everhart Road.

Motorists are advised to avoid the intersection or seek alternate routes. Specific recommendations include:

· Expect congestion at the SPID intersection for southbound travel on Everhart Road.

· For those using the SPID eastbound frontage road, consider turning onto Flynn Parkway or Embassy Drive.

· Expect minor congestion when traveling on the SPID westbound frontage road as you approach Everhart Road.

A detailed map is attached, illustrating this phase of roadwork and changes in traffic flow. Ongoing updates will be available online at Everhart at SPID Water Line Improvement Project | City of Corpus Christi.

Safety remains a top priority. Motorists are urged to follow posted detour signs to navigate the construction zone safely. Detours will be clearly marked to ensure minimal disruption and maintain traffic flow.
