Restricted Vehicle Access In Front of Michael J. Ellis Seawall

Beach Erosion Impacts Area from Ellis Seawall to Mile Marker 217.5

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department has installed bollards on the beach at the Michael J. Ellis seawall to restrict vehicle access from the south end to mile marker 217.5, which is located just south of the Wyndham Hotel. This measure was implemented due to natural beach erosion and addressed public safety concerns. However, pedestrian access to the beach remains open.

This action was taken in accordance with local and state regulations regarding natural resources and conservation, which allow the City of Corpus Christi to restrict vehicular access to the area in front of the seawall if the beach width is less than 150 feet from the Mean High Tide line to the base of the seawall.

Parks & Recreation will monitor the area in front of the seawall and seek opportunities to restore and sustain the beach at a minimum width of 200 feet, as outlined in the City’s Beach Access and Dune Action Plan. The area will remain closed to vehicle access until the beach width is restored above 150 feet.
