Update: Everhart Road Water Line Improvements Planned at South Padre Island Drive Intersection

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – City construction crews are preparing for water line improvements at the South Padre Island Drive and Everhart Road intersection, part of voter-approved roadwork included in Bond 2018 and 2020.

Construction for Phase 1 of this project is now tentatively scheduled to begin in late August.

During construction, motorists will have access to all businesses in the area. Traffic signs will be placed to alert residents of changes to traffic patterns.

This work is part of a $29.3 million road reconstruction project of Everhart Road from South Padre Island Drive to Alameda Street. The upcoming work includes $3.4 million in construction to replace aging infrastructure and link upgraded water lines that improve water system efficiency.

Work will be done in three phases, with the estimated completion date of March 2026.

Motorists in the area are advised to plan and allow additional travel time to navigate lane closures.

Motorists are advised to avoid the intersection or find alternate routes.

  • For northbound travel on Everhart Road, consider detours to Corona Drive or Williams Drive.
  • For southbound travel on Everhart Road, expect congestion at the SPID intersection.
  • For travel on the SPID eastbound frontage road, motorists should consider turning on Flynn Parkway or Embassy Drive.
  • For travel on the SPID westbound frontage road, expect minor congestion at the approach to Everhart Road.

A detailed map is attached to visually represent the first phase of road work and traffic flow adjustments.

Safety remains a top priority, and motorists traveling through this area must follow the posted detour signs to navigate the construction zone. Detours will be marked to ensure minimal disruption and maintain traffic flow.

The City of Corpus Christi is committed to projects that maintain or improve streets and infrastructure for every city resident, business, and visitor.
