City to Offer Adaptive Swim Lessons for Persons with Disabilities
The Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District’s vision for every child and young adult who wishes to learn to swim, regardless of their ability to do so, is closer to becoming a reality. The Health District coordinated a specialized train-the-trainer workshop on May 4 at Collier Pool, where Swim Angelfish instructors taught 14 participants from the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department, school districts, and other community programs that provide aquatic programs.

Mayor’s Committee on Veteran Affairs Hosts Armed Forces Day Commemoration Ceremony
The City of Corpus Christi and the Mayor’s Committee on Veteran Affairs will host an Armed Forces Day Commemoration Ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ben Garza Gym, 1815 Howard Street. The ceremony has been relocated from Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park due to ongoing construction at the park.

Bill Witt Aquatic Center Opening Soon
The Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of the Bill Witt Aquatic Center, located at 6809 Yorktown Boulevard, on May 23. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. The facility will be open to the public from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Record-Breaking Heat Expected This Week
The National Weather Service forecasts that early-season heat will impact all of South Texas this week with record-breaking temperatures. The City of Corpus Christi encourages residents who need a cool place to visit City Libraries and Senior Centers as a cooling center during their regular operating hours.
