Street Closures and Traffic Impacts - May 23, 2025
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—Below are street closures along major City streets that impact motorists and pedestrians. These closures may be due to construction, special event activity, or maintenance. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work, or other circumstances.
Work zone safety is a priority. Motorists are advised to slow down, follow posted speed limits, pay attention, watch out for workers, obey signs and flaggers, and allow additional travel time for delays.
CITY STREET RECONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE PROJECTS
Aaron Drive – Saratoga Boulevard to Summer Wind Drive.
Aaron Drive from Saratoga Boulevard to Summer Wind Drive will be limited to one-way northbound traffic through November. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2026.
Alameda Street – Louisiana Avenue to Texan Trail
Traffic on Alameda Street will switch to the southbound lanes from Louisiana Avenue to Texan Trail, while the northbound lanes will be closed for roadwork. This phase of the project is expected to remain in effect through October.
Traffic will be redirected to two-way, single-lane traffic within the southbound lanes during this roadwork. Access to all businesses and the school in the work area will be maintained throughout construction.
Brownlee Boulevard – Staples Street to Morgan Avenue
Brownlee Boulevard between Ayers Street and McKenzie Street is closed to through traffic.
Cooper’s Alley
Work on the Cooper’s Alley L-Head construction project is now underway and will require a lane closure. Two-way traffic will continue on the westbound lane. Flaggers will be present to help navigate the construction zone. This closure is expected to last through June 1.
Everhart Road – McArdle Street
The northbound lanes at the intersection will be closed beginning Friday, May 23. Two-way traffic will be rerouted to the southbound lanes of Everhart Road between McArdle Road and Burney Drive. Eastbound access to McArdle Road and Burney Drive will be closed at Everhart Road. Left turns onto McArdle Road from Everhart Road will remain prohibited. This will be in effect through July.
Flato Road – Bear Lane to Bates Road
The Flato Road Project continues in Phase 1. During this phase, Flato Road will be closed from the intersection of Bear Lane to the second driveway of West Oso High School.
Lexington Boulevard – Leopard Street to Hopkins Road
North Lexington Boulevard is open to traffic with intermittent lane closures for driveway installations.
Martin Road – Holly Road to Dorado Street
Roadwork on Martin Road will require lane closures. Travel will be one-way southbound from Holly Road to Dorado Street.
Nueces Bay Boulevard – Leopard Street to West Broadway Street
Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed between Up River Road and Leopard Street. This closure is part of ongoing improvements to water lines along this section and is expected to last through Monday, June 9.
Additionally, Nueces Bay Boulevard between Leopard Street and Highway 37 Frontage Road remains closed with two-way travel on the southbound lanes.
The full scope of the project is expected to be completed by July 2025.
Oso Parkway – Bar-Le-Doc Drive
City Storm Water Maintenance crews will replace the drainage infrastructure underneath Oso Parkway's drainage crossing. City crews will set up a temporary full street closure of Oso Parkway to perform maintenance repairs. Message boards and construction signage will guide motorists around the closure. Residential access will not be affected by the temporary street closure.
Timbergate Drive – South Staples Street to Snowgoose Road
Timbergate Drive between South Staples Street and Snowgoose Road will be one-way westbound. Roadway closures are in effect for the eastbound lanes of Timbergate Drive between Staples Street and Snowgoose Road.
West Broadway – North Port Avenue to Peabody Avenue
Beginning Wednesday, May 21, construction work will close West Broadway Street between North Port Avenue and Peabody Avenue. The closure is expected to be completed by mid-July.
Whitecap Boulevard and Gypsy Street Bridges
Varying lane closures are expected as crews work on improvements at the Whitecap Boulevard bridge near Cruiser Street and Gypsy Street bridge by Bounty Avenue.
Work will require varying lane closures. The project is scheduled for completion by June 12.
Yorktown Boulevard – Rodd Field Road to Oso Creek Mud Bridge
Construction is underway on the Yorktown Boulevard project. The westbound lanes of Yorktown Boulevard will be closed from Geiger Road to the Oso Creek Mud Bridge. Traffic will be redirected to the eastbound lanes, allowing two-way traffic.
CITY PERMITTED CLOSURES
Lomax Street – North Mesquite Street to North Chaparral Street
A contractor will have two 20-cubic-yard dumpsters on site for approximately 30 days. TAMUCC is renovating its first floor at Lomax Street & Chapparal Street. It requires the equipment to remove trash and debris accordingly.
John Sartain Street – North Chaparral Street to North Water Street
N Water Street – Lomax Street to John Sartain Street
N Chaparral Street – Lomax Street to John Sartain Street
A contractor will renovate the exterior fascia of the Education Service Center building in the 300 block of John Sartain Street, downtown Corpus Christi. The contractor will temporarily occupy the parking spaces along N Water Street, John Sartain Street, and N Chaparral Street adjacent to the building. Warning signs will advise motorists and pedestrians ahead of time regarding the construction. Construction at this location is expected to last several weeks.
Port Avenue – Horne Road to Baldwin Boulevard (Clark Pipeline)
The contractor is replacing a 16-inch water main along South Port Avenue from Horne Road to Baldwin Boulevard. Construction has progressed into the next phase. However, Southbound Port Avenue will remain reduced to one lane between Baldwin Boulevard and Tarlton Street, utilizing the center turn lane as the travel lane. Northbound Port Avenue travel lanes will not be affected. In addition, other lane closures along the project limits may occur for lateral waterline installations. Construction at this location is estimated to last several months.
Port Avenue – Agnes Street to Lipan Street
A contractor for Corpus Christi Water Department (CCW) is making utility improvements along Port Avenue. To perform demolition operations safely, the contractor is implementing a temporary shoulder and sidewalk closure. Warning signs will advise motorists and pedestrians ahead of time regarding the construction. Construction at this location is expected to last several months.
